A Life Woven into Denim

My name is Cengiz Dana.

For over 50 years, I have lived and breathed fashion. My journey began in the vibrant workshops of my uncle at 16 and then at 18 in the finest retail stores in Istanbul’s fashion center. At 21, I embraced my own production and launched my first brand in Holland. At 26, I moved to Gran Canaria, where I built my own production, brand, and retail outlets.

At 30, I started my most famous brand, “Day by Day,” in Holland — with production in Turkey alongside my brother. At 38, I faced a devastating loss when a trusted partner turned against me, and I lost my brand and more. In the years that followed, I designed and produced for major international brands including H&M, C&A, and Hema.

At 48, I began producing in China. At 50, I established my own factory in Zhongshan, China. Since then, I have divided my time between China (four months) and Holland (two months).

I have had the privilege of working with renowned denim experts such as Shuket Iman (former Head of Design and Production at Levi’s for 29 years) and his friend Adriano Goldschmied, widely known as the Godfather of Denim. Together with my nephew in Holland, I developed the successful jeans brand Florèz.nl, and later launched my online brand in China, “JustMe&Mine.”

I am also the author of the book Understanding is the Solution. Through writing it, I realized that everything I truly understand makes life easier for myself and those around me — and it gives us energy. That feeling has become my guiding philosophy. It is a living philosophy that continues to evolve and will be updated over time.
